Kalani was a tactical droid from the rebellion on Onderon who commanded the droid army there. Unlike other droid armies, Kalani and his remained awake when the droid army was shut down.
At least seventeen years after the end of the Civil War, Kalani and his troups encountered rebels Rex, Ezra Bridger, Garazeb Orrelios, and Kanan Jarrus, where Ezra managed to convince Rex and Kalani to set aside their differences after telling them that neither Republics or Separatists were the true victors of the Clone Wars, but rather the Galactic Empire.
